Dania Vazquez, MSN, APRN

Volunteer Nurse, previous Clinical Coordinator

I was born in Cuba and came to the United States at 11 years of age. I lived in California for 9 years and I came to Miami, FL after graduating from Nursing School and loved it here, and of course I stayed since I also met my husband. I do feel like a Miami native, I have been living here and working as a Pediatric Nurse for over 27 years. I love the beach and the beautiful sunshine.

I graduated with my Bachelors in Nursing in 1984 from the University of Miami and went back to get my Masters in Nursing and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 1999 from Florida International University. I have worked in many specialties and roles, but one of the areas that I liked the most was Pulmonology. I was the VACC Clinical Coordinator and Camp Nurse Practitioner for two years, and ever since, I have volunteered for VACC Camp for the past seven years. My role is a little different, presently I am the ARNP in the Psychiatric Unit at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, but continue serving the ediatric/adolescent population and their families and my passion is always reaching the goal of making a difference and meeting the patients and families medical and emotional needs.

I have been blessed with a beautiful family, Santiago and I have three children, Eric 24, Janell 20, and Brian 15. My children and husband have all been part of VACC Camp and the two youngest have continued to volunteer for the past 7 years. My family and I look forward to VACC Camp every year; to see the old and meet the new campers and their families, see the volunteers that return and meet the new ones, and share special times with the medical staff, it's what we look forward to and brings us back every year. Seeing the campers participate in activities and have special moments in reaching goals that they have never had the opportunity to reach before. Seeing the joy in their faces and their family's smiles is an amazing experience each year!!!!
